History of our mountain hut on the Grossglockner

Tradition for over 80 years

The Edelweißhütte, our mountain hut on the Grossglockner, can look back on a long tradition that has lasted for over 80 years. The popular excursion destination at the highest passable point of the Grossglockner Road has been family-owned ever since. I, Kurt Lederer, would like to invite you to take a little stroll through the illustrious history of the mountain inn on the Grossglockner.

POPULAR DESTINATION SINCE 1935

The Edelweissspitze mountain inn on the Grossglockner

In the course of construction work on the Großglockner High Alpine Road under the direction of Ing. Franz Wallack, which was carried out from 1930 to 1935, the 1.6 km long route to the Edelweißspitze with six hairpin bends was completed in just 47 days in the summer of 1934. In 1935, my great-grandparents Peter and Julianna Lederer built the mountain hut on the Grossglockner. Since the opening of the High Alpine Road, it has been one of the most popular excursion destinations on this unique route. When my grandmother Maria Lederer took over the refuge in 1968, it finally became a mountain inn.

EXPANSION AND MODERNIZATION

My parents Trude and Kurt Lederer took over the business in 1988 and pulled out all the stops to expand and modernize the business. Our mountain inn on the Großglocknerstraße was expanded by an additional log cabin and received ultra-modern rooms to further increase the comfort of our guests. Nevertheless, we have always been able to retain our traditional flair and the cosiness of our hut on the Großglockner.

My family and I have been running the Edelweißhütte since 2013. We do everything we can to make your stay at 2,571 m unforgettable. Would you like to visit us and maybe stay overnight? Then send us an inquiry today!
